College Board Will No Longer Offer SAT Subject Tests or SAT with Essay

Why is College Board discontinuing the SAT Subject Tests?

College board is reducing the demands on students. As many students take AP exams, college board feels that the AP exams accurately display the students knowledge of specific subjects; therefore, the SAT subject tests are no longer needed.

Why is College Board discontinuing the SAT Essay?

Currently, colleges note the student's writing ability through many other ways. One of the most common ways is through the student's personal statement; therefore, the SAT essay is no longer necessary. Keep in mind to put extra emphasis and effort into your personal statement since this is one of the college's ways to recognize your writing ability.

  • Students who are currently registered for, or plan to register for, an upcoming Subject Test outside the U.S. can still test through the June 2021 administration. Students who no longer want to take Subject Tests can contact Customer Service to cancel and receive a refund.

I’ve already taken SAT Subject Tests. Will colleges still accept those scores?

Each University is different. Some may acknowledge your score, while others may not. Checking college's websites for the most up-to-date information on their application policies is the best way to know for sure!
